Lamborghini has handed over a state-of-the-art 2008 Gallardo LP560-4 to the Italian Police.

The new model replaces the 2004 Gallardo that clocked up more than 140,000 kilometres It has custom ‘blu Polizia’ decals complete with white stripes that designate it as a law enforcement vehicle. Compact LED flashing lights on the roof of the car are also custom made, so as not to spoil the car’s aerodynamics and high speed pursuit abilities.

The high octane Italian police car is powered by a 412 kilowatt 5.2 litre engine that can accelerate from zero to 100km/h in 3.7 seconds, making it the ultimate chase car.

With mountains of power and valleys torque, the police car can reach speeds of around 320km/h which will be useful for chasing down errant Ferrari owners on Italy’s autostrada.

But only 30 police officers will be able to drive the high performance police car, all of whom undergo a week long training course with Lamborghini’s test drivers.
